Highest German research award goes to Dr Baptiste Gault

Microscopy Australia is thrilled that our first Atom Probe Scientist, Dr Baptiste Gault, has been honoured by the German Research Foundation with the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award.

Dr Gault is currently head of the Atom Probe Tomography group at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung (MPIE) in Düsseldorf, and this award, regarded as the German Nobel Prize, is the most important research funding prize in Germany. Dr Gault will be endowed with 2.5 million euros, for his outstanding research in the field of materials sciences. This will enable him to continue his work for up to seven years with a reduced bureaucratic work load.

During his time at Microscopy Australia, along with Prof. Julie Cairney, Prof. Simon Ringer and Dr Michael Moody, Dr Gault co-authored Atom Probe Microscopy, part of the Springer Series in Materials Science book series. We congratulate him for the award and for his significant contributions to furthering knowledge in materials science through the application of atom probe tomography.
